Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and experiences, Gregory. As someone who has set up an account and is still learning the ropes, I still feel like Alice down the rabbit hole.
That was very helpful because I can never figure out who sad what to me about anythng or where I reolied. I'm afraid still don't, but wll study what you said. I'm really too old to learn much of anything new.
Oh, Abigail, I bet you can learn new things if you really want to. It's just a question of putting in the time required. The older we get, the more time seems to be required, for some reason...
But it’s so boring AND THEN YOU HAVE TO LEARN IT AGAIN every day!!
I have figured out how I love to spend my time. Hard to give that up. I just sit around making things up when I get curious. What do you do when you do nothing ?
Hi Gregory, not sure if you’re still monitoring this thread, but if so, is there a way to reply to those who have restacked my notes or posts? Tell them thank you? Doing so in the same way I reply to comments seems inconsistent and I never know if it gets through unless they comment back. Help 😊
One thing I'm confused about is followers. If I follow an author vs subscribe to their substack, what's the difference in terms of what I see from them? I understand what the difference is for the author if I subscribe, but following is a much less transparent term.
My understanding is this: If you follow someone, you will never get emails from them. If you use the Substack app or website, some things that they publish (like notes) will appear in your feed, especially if you set the feed to "Following" rather than "Explore". I don't believe that you will automatically get their posts on your home page, however.
Thanks for this, it's very helpful. I started my Substack in July 2023 and had a flurry of early subscribers - they were almost all my former students from years of language teaching, mainly from Eastern Europe were Substack was (and kind of still is) a lesser-known thing. Even now, many of them are confused and it's SO hard to get them to stop commenting on my posts on Facebook and sending me messages which are better off as public comments. I shall now send this post to them as their mandatory homework!

It can take time to learn how it all works, Joy. And it doesn't help that they keep changing everything, either! Best of luck.
I need help
Hi. What kind of help do you need?
How do I comment on a post on substack for the first time?
Thank you
Is it normal for my comment to be at the bottom of the list?

How can I DM you? I can't find either the Direct button or a double bubble. It's to send you info I think you'll find interesting- probably. Janine

Glad I could be of service, Daniel. I also find that nobody I know in Europe knows much about Substack. It seems like a really Anglo-world phenomenon.
